Food Allergy Living
In 2017 I became a Food Allergy Mom. This was the first time food allergies would directly impact our immediate home and family, the things we ate, brought into the house and cooked with. The more I learned about it, the more our life was being altered. No wheat, dairy, egg, peanut.
For months, we lived off meats, vegetables and fruits, while I studied recipes and looked at the chemistry of ingredients that I had always used and how to directly substitute with items El could have. I figured out what I could use in place of what ingredients and when. I devoted myself to creating recipes, understanding cross-contamination, and all things food allergies to ensure our daughter could live a life of good food that fueled her soul and body without ever missing out. I was lost. Exhausted. Confused. Scared.
Over the course of 4 years these recipes I bring to you now, have been staples in our home and with friends and family. Our home is free of wheat, dairy, egg, peanut and tree-nut and so are all the recipes listed below. Our hope is to share ways to ease your navigation into the same world whether it be allergies, sensitivities or a life-style change.
Note that I have some substitutions listed but I personally have not tried any of these recipes with gluten, dairy, egg or nut. Feel free to leave your comments for others to see how substitutions have worked for you!
